Description

HELLIDON SP5158 13/90 Church of St. John the Baptist, Holthouse memorial cross GV II Memorial cross to Charles Scrafton Holthouse, vicar at Hellidon from 1845 until his death in 1881. Designed by William Butterfield. Dressed sandstone and limestone. Moulded and chamfered plinth. Foliated cross with tapering shaft on large rectangular base with sloping 'roof' sides. Base has inscriptions on limestone framed by foiled arches. Erected from Memorial Fund raised by subscription. (Holthouse papers: Northants Record Office).
