Description

The Church of St. John the Baptist features a memorial cross dedicated to Charles Scrafton Holthouse, who served as vicar at Hellidon from 1845 until his death in 1881. The cross was designed by William Butterfield and is made of dressed sandstone and limestone. It has a moulded and chamfered plinth, with a foliated cross and a tapering shaft resting on a large rectangular base that has sloping 'roof' sides. The base includes inscriptions on limestone, framed by foiled arches. This memorial was erected from a fund raised by public subscription.
