Description
The memorial cross located in the churchyard of St John the Baptist Church was created around 1907 by an unknown designer. It is made of Bath stone and features a three-stepped base, a moulded plinth, and a tapering shaft. At the top, there is a cornice that supports a gabled lantern-like terminal. This terminal has reliefs on each side depicting the Crucifixion to the south, St George to the east, St John the Baptist to the west, and a cross to the north. The base is inscribed with the words: "LET US REMEMBER BEFORE GOD THE SOUL OF HIS FAITHFUL SERVANT PHILIP EDWARD GEORGE PRIEST WHO MINISTERED IN THIS CHURCH AS CURATE AND VICAR 1868-1907."
