Description
The gatepiers and railings at St John's Churchyard from Bathwick Street date from the late 18th century and are made of Bath stone ashlar and wrought iron. There is a pair of gatepiers with corniced heads marking the entrance to the footpath from Bathwick Street. The left-hand pier is connected to wrought iron railings that rest on a dwarf stone base, which runs alongside the footpath leading to the Old Vicarage, now known as Brompton House Hotel. The railings also front the old Bathwick Burial Ground and are a standard late 18th-century design featuring alternate forked and single standards, similar to those found at St James's Square. Additionally, there is a matching pair of double gates at the entrance to the Burial Ground.
