Description
Hellidon House and Latchetts is a house that has been divided into two separate residences. It dates from the 17th century and early 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed squared ironstone, with the front of the principal range, known as Latchetts, finished in stucco. It features slate roofs and has stone stacks at the ends and along the ridge. The layout is T-shaped, with two storeys and an attic, and it has a five-window range. The central entrance consists of a part-glazed door with an overlight, set in a moulded stone frame and sheltered by a porch supported by coupled Greek Doric columns. There are string courses at the first floor level and above the first floor windows. The windows are 12-pane sash types with stone sills and slatted shutters, and the gables are topped with stone coping. The rear range, known as Hellidon House, is from the 17th century but has undergone many alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries, including a 19th-century extension. Inside, Latchetts features a spacious open well staircase with stick balusters, while Hellidon House has a large 17th-century stone fireplace with a four-centred arch.
