Description

The Laurels is an early 18th-century farmhouse located on the north side of Wappenham High Street. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with ironstone dressings and features a slate roof with stone end stacks and paired square chimneys. The building has a T-plan layout and stands two storeys high with an attic, comprising a five-window range.

The central entrance includes a four-panel door with an overlight, framed by a moulded wood surround and a moulded eaved stone surround that has a keyblock and a broken pediment. This pediment frames a horizontal oval panel topped by a small ball finial. On either side of the door are three-light casement windows with flat-arched heads and keyblocks, along with moulded stone sills and jambs. The first floor features two-light casement windows with similar moulded stone sills and surrounds with keyblocks.

The exterior is characterized by a chamfered plinth and quoins, a moulded string course, moulded stone eaves, a central roof dormer, and stone-coped gables with kneelers. The right side elevation has similar one-light windows, and there are comparable windows in the rear wing.

Inside, the farmhouse boasts stop-chamfered spine beams, an open fireplace in the kitchen with a stop-chamfered bressumer and a bread oven, and a dog-leg staircase leading from the ground floor to the attic with turned balusters. There is also a bolection moulded wood chimneypiece in the upper room and a stone cellar.
