Description
No. 6 High Street is a house that was formerly a shop and carter's, dated 1703. It is built of coursed limestone rubble and coursed squared ironstone and limestone, with ridged tiles and shingle roofs, and features a brick ridge stack on a stone base. The building has a 4-unit plan, is two storeys tall with an attic, and has a six-window range.
There is a 20th-century garage and porch to the left, and to the right of the porch is a 20th-century four-light casement window with a 20th-century timber lintel. Above the former cart entrance is a chamfered lintel, and there is a central straight joint. The ground floor has three-light casement windows with timber lintels, while the first floor features two- and three-light 20th-century casements. The right gable has a stone coping, and there is a datestone inscribed B/IE/1703 on it. A 20th-century single-storey extension has been added to the rear. Inside, there is an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer and a blocked two-light wood mullion window at the rear, which is now internal. The building is included for its group value.
