Description
22 Helmdon Road is a cottage dating from the early 18th century. It is built of coursed squared ironstone and limestone, topped with a plain tile roof and features brick stacks at the ends and ridge. The cottage has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high, with a cellar and attic. The front has a two-window range, with a central part-glazed plank door set in a moulded wood surround, topped with a timber lintel and a segmental hood supported by brackets. To the left of the door is a four-light casement window, while a two-light casement is to the right. The first floor features three-light casements, all with timber lintels. A change in stonework at the head of the sills of the first-floor windows indicates an old raising. There is a single-storey 20th-century extension to the left. The building has quoins, and the interior includes ogee stop-chamfered spine beams, old doors, and a central roof truss with clasped ogee principals.
