Description
The Old Bull is a house that was formerly an inn, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of coursed squared ironstone with a slate roof and features a brick end stack on a stone base. The building has a two-unit through-passage plan and stands two storeys tall with an attic, presenting a five-window range.
The central door is blocked and has been replaced by reproduction two-light stone mullion windows, which are flanked by two-light moulded flat-faced stone mullion windows. The first floor also has similar leaded windows. To the left on the ground floor, there is a 19th-century bay window, and to the right, a three-light casement window with moulded stone jambs and a timber lintel. The exterior includes a limestone chamfered plinth, quoins, and stone-coped gables with kneelers. A blocked two-light chamfered stone mullion cellar window is located on the right side elevation. There is a plank door to the right that replaces a similar window, which shares a hood mould. A 20th-century casement window is present on the ground floor, along with a three-light flat-faced stone mullion window on the first floor and a similar two-light window in the attic. The rear of the building has another three-light stone mullion window and a 20th-century two-storey brick extension on the left, which provides the current access. Inside, the building features ogee stop-chamfered spine beams and a large stone cellar.
