Description

The Manor is a manor house dated 1702 and 1704. It is constructed of fine coursed squared limestone with a plain tile roof and stone end and ridge stacks featuring square paired chimneys. The building is arranged in a T-plan, with two storeys and an attic, and has a six-window front. A glazed door with an overlight is positioned slightly right of centre, set within a moulded stone surround featuring a keyblock inscribed '17C02/RA/1704' and a broken segmental pediment. The ground and first floors have two-light, flat-faced stone mullion windows with moulded sills and surrounds, except for two ground-floor windows to the left, which have keyblocks and 12-pane sashes. Three two-light cellar windows with plain flat-faced stone mullions are located to the left of the door; six steps lead up to the door. Other features include a chamfered plinth, quoins, a moulded storey band, stone eaves, stone-coped gables with kneelers, and two roof dormers. The rear elevation has three-light, flat-faced stone mullion windows and a projecting wing, which includes a back door with a moulded stone surround and an old plank door with a leaded overlight, approached by six steps. A late 19th-century two-storey extension continues the wing. The interior features stop-chamfered spine beams, some boxed; a hall with fielded panelling and a bolection moulded stone chimneypiece; a parlour with fielded panelling, a chimneypiece with a fluted keyblock, a fitted corner cupboard with shaped shelves, a round-arched head, semi-domed interior, flanked by pilasters, and a late 18th-century statuary marble chimneypiece from Melchbourne Park, Bedfordshire. There is also a dog-leg staircase with turned balusters and a collar truss roof.
