Description
The Old Bakehouse is a cottage dating from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century. It is constructed from coursed squared ironstone and limestone, topped with a reed thatch roof and features brick stacks at the ends and along the ridge, all set on stone bases. Originally designed as a two-unit plan, it includes a one-unit addition. The building is two stories high and has a three-window range. There is a plank door located to the right of the center, which is framed by a moulded wood surround and a timber lintel, all within a 20th-century stone porch. The cottage has three-light casement windows on both the ground and first floors, except for a six-pane window on the far left of the ground floor, with all windows featuring timber lintels. A timber lintel is also present over the central ground floor where there are blocked openings. Inside, the cottage has chamfered spine beams, an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer, and a salt cupboard with H-hinges. The floors are made of stone flags.
