Description
The White Cottage is a late 18th-century cottage located on Wappenham Road in Abthorpe. The building is constructed of coursed rubble and painted white, featuring a corrugated iron roof that covers the remains of a thatch roof, with a brick stack at one end. It has a one-unit plan and is two stories tall with a single window range facing the road. The cottage has 2-light casement windows on both the ground and first floors, each with timber lintels. To the left, there is a single-storey brick addition. The right gable end features a gabled timber porch with a plank door that has a moulded wood surround. Above the porch, there is a 2-light casement window in the gable, also with a timber lintel. Inside, the cottage includes a chamfered spine beam, an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer, a winder stair, and a 2-bay collar-truss roof.
