Description

Northampton Top Lock Cottage is a lock-keeper's cottage built around 1815. It features a painted brick exterior and a hipped slate roof with 20th-century brick lateral stacks. The cottage has a two-unit plan and is two storeys high, with a three-window range. The central entrance has a 20th-century part-glazed door with a segmental-arched head, flanked by canted bay windows. The first floor has two-light sliding casement windows, and the central bay slightly projects forward. The eaves are deep and overhanging. There is a single-storey extension to the left. The interior has not been inspected. The cottage is located at the head of a flight of locks on the Northampton arm of the Grand Union Canal.
