Description
Torquemeters Limited is a house that has been converted into commercial premises. It dates from the mid-17th century and has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of squared coursed lias and cob, topped with a corrugated metal roof. Originally, it likely had a two-unit plan with two bays of stables on the far right.
The building is two storeys high, with a yard-facing elevation that features a three-window range. On the left, there is one 19th-century casement window under a wooden lintel, while to the right are two hayloft doors, also under wooden lintels. The ground floor has two similar casements and a central set of 20th-century double doors. There is a part-glazed door on the far right, also under a wooden lintel. The far left bay projects forward beneath a catslide roof. The building has ashlar gable parapets and a brick stack at the ridge. Above the central doors, there is an illegible tablet with a moulded cornice. The left gable facing the road is similar, featuring a 20th-century door and casements under a wooden lintel. The rear wall is partially rendered cob. Although the interior has not been inspected, the left room is noted to have an open fireplace with a bressumer, a chamfered ceiling beam, and wall panelling.
