Description
20 High Street is a house that has been converted into commercial premises. It was originally built in the 16th century, remodeled in the early 19th century, and altered in 2022.
The building features a brick frontage that is painted and partially rendered, with a pitched roof covered in concrete tiles and brick chimney stacks at the east end. The rear wing is constructed of coursed stone and has a slate roof. The overall plan is an L-shape, consisting of the front range facing High Street and a rear wing.
The front range is two storeys high and has four window bays on the main elevation. The left-hand doorway features a 20th-century door, and the timber shopfront was added in 2022. On the first floor, there are four horned plate-glass sash windows set beneath a shallow corbelled parapet. The rear wing, made of deep rubble-stone, has a half-hipped roof.
Inside, it has been reported that the building includes a 16th-century roof with cambered tie-beams and collars, and there may be additional 16th-century features hidden within the remodeled structure.
