Description
31 and 33 High Street are a pair of houses that have been converted into shops, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. They are constructed of painted brick with a brick gable and cross axial stacks, topped with a tiled roof and stone verges at the rear. The buildings are two storeys high with an attic and feature a two-window range. The outer doorways are three-centre-arched and have 20th-century doors. The early 19th-century shop windows are shallow bowed oriel windows with glazing bars. Above the doorways, the first-floor windows are blocked, but there are 6/6-pane sash windows, along with a single right-hand 20th-century dormer that has a 3/6-pane sash. At the rear, there is a ground-floor 6/6-pane sash window with thick bars and a hipped dormer. The interior has been altered; No. 31 includes a winder stair leading to the attic, which features stick balusters. The roof was restored in the mid-20th century.
