Description
34 and 36 High Street is a corner building that dates back to around 1830 and has been altered in the mid-20th century. Originally a single house, it is now a pair of shops. The structure is made of brick, with the ground floor painted and featuring rubbed brick flat heads, while the south front is tile-hung. It has a tiled hipped roof and a double-depth plan, with the northeast range facing New Street. The building stands three storeys high and has a three-window range. The corner site features a splayed one-window corner with a plain doorway and a mid-20th century door, along with a left-hand doorway on High Street. There are two small canted mid-20th century shop front oriels on both elevations, and the first and second floors have horned plate-glass sash windows in flush frames. The matching four-window return on New Street includes two oriels and a blind window on the first and second floors, second from the right. The interior has been altered due to a mid-20th century office conversion. This building is included for its group value.
