Description
Number 9 (Cromwell House) and attached shop is a house, now also incorporating a shop, dating from the mid-18th century, with later 19th and 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone and has a 20th-century plain tile roof. Originally planned with three units, it now has two storeys with an attic. The front has a five-window arrangement at the first floor, featuring sash windows with glazing bars, set within gauged stone heads with keyblocks. The ground floor has 20th-century shop windows with glazing bars and a glazed door to the left, and two fixed-light windows with glazing bars under rendered heads to the right. A central 20th-century door is set within a moulded wood surround. A chamfered plinth is visible on the right-hand side. There are three flat-tapped roof dormers. The building has ashlar gable parapets and kneelers, along with brick stacks located at the ridge and end. The interior has not been inspected. It possesses group value as an important part of the High Street.
