Description
32, 34, and 36 High Street are three dwellings that originated in the 16th or 17th century, with significant alterations mainly from the mid to late 18th century and the 19th century. The buildings are constructed of regularly coursed limestone and topped with a slate roof. They were originally designed as a three-unit plan and stand two storeys tall.
The front features a four-window range of 19th-century sash windows on the first floor, all set beneath wooden lintels. Number 34 has a central ground floor casement window that is topped with a 16th or 17th-century hood mould featuring carved label stops. To the left, there is a 20th-century door with a wooden lintel, situated above a 16th or 17th-century stone mullion window, also with label stops. Numbers 32 and 36 have 19th-century casement and sash windows on the ground floor, accompanied by 20th-century doors, all under wooden lintels.
The buildings have brick and stone stacks located at the ridge and ends. The interior of number 34 includes an open fireplace with a bressumer beam, salt cupboards, and a winder stair. Number 36 is noted to have a priest's hole.
