Description
28 Gloucester Street is a house that now serves as both a residence and a shop. It dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century and has undergone later alterations. The building is constructed of coursed squared limestone rubble, which is now painted, and features an artificial slate roof with a rebuilt brick stack at the right end. It has two storeys and an attic, with a four-window range.
On the first floor, there are four 19th-century two-light timber casement windows set in chamfered stone surrounds. The ground floor has one similar window to the left, alongside a simple late 19th-century shop front that includes carved brackets flanking a frieze, with a part-glazed shop door and window that no longer has glazing bars. To the right, there is a 19th-century plank door within a moulded stone architrave that features a frieze and cornice. A moulded string course over the left side of the ground floor dies into the shop front. The building also has three 20th-century rooflights and a blocked former hoist opening located below the eaves at the center.
At the rear, there is a contemporary two-storey wing that has a brick stack on the gable end and a stone and brick stack on the right side. Additionally, there is a further single-storey wing that has been enlarged upwards and sideways with concrete blockwork to create a workshop. The interior has not been inspected.
