Description
27 Gloucester Street is a house dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is built of coursed squared limestone and has a Welsh slate roof, with brick stacks at both ends; the left stack is shared with No. 25 Gloucester Street. The house is two stories tall and has a three-window range. On the upper floor, there are three 6/6-pane sash windows, each with lintels featuring keystones and stone cills. The ground floor has two similar windows. The central door is set in a round-headed opening with impost blocks and a keystone, and it features six flush panels and a fanlight above. There is a shallow plinth and a large rear wing. The interior has not been inspected. This house is said to have been the former Cirencester theatre and is believed to contain theatrical wall paintings; it later became the Volunteer Inn.
