Description
26 Church Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the mid to late 17th century and was refronted and altered in the mid 19th century. The building is constructed of rendered limestone rubble and features a slate hipped roof with a brick stack. It is L-shaped, situated on a corner site with a left-hand rear wing. The structure has two storeys and a two-window range. The mid to late 19th-century shop front is wide and double-fronted, complete with a fascia and cornice, thin mullions, and plate glass. On the first floor, there are two 2/2-pane sash windows. The left-hand return of the building has a central recessed door, a three-light casement window to the left, a mid-19th-century casement window above, and a late 19th-century right-hand casement window with glazing bars. Inside, the details include chamfered lateral beams, and the rear room features a widely-chamfered axial beam with roll stops. There is a right-hand dogleg winder stair next to the side door, leading to an axial first-floor passage. The roof has not been seen.
