Description

This building at 13 Church Street, Calne, is a late 18th-century Oddfellows Hall, later adapted for use as a shop. Constructed around 1840 and altered in the late 20th century, it is built of limestone ashlar with moulded stacks and a hipped slate roof. The building has a single-depth plan and two storeys, originally featuring a four-window front, with a single-window bay at a slight angle on the right. The right-hand bay contains a six-panel door topped with an overlight, set within a moulded architrave adorned with a bracketed cornice. A wide shop front was inserted in the late 20th century. A cill band runs along the first floor, and there are six-pane sash windows set in moulded architraves. The interior was substantially altered in the late 20th century. The building is included on the list for its contribution to the surrounding group value.
