Description
Blacksmiths Cottage is a house located on Deene Main Street, dating from the early to mid-18th century and the 19th century. It is built from squared coursed limestone and features a thatch and pantile roof. The cottage has a two-unit plan and is a single storey with an attic. The front has a two-window range of 19th-century style casements, which are set under wooden lintels. There are similar casements under eyebrow dormers in the attic, and the building has ashlar quoins. To the left, there is a 19th-century plank door, also under a wooden lintel. Brick stacks are located at both ends of the cottage. Attached to the left is a single-storey, L-shaped outbuilding from the 19th century, which has a pantile roof. The interior has not been inspected but likely retains an open fireplace. The cottage is indicated on an estate map from 1747.
