Description
Head Gardeners Cottage is a pair of gardeners' houses dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, associated with the Brudenell family of Deene Hall. The building features squared coursed limestone and red brick with a Collyweston slate roof. It likely began as a single-unit house in the 17th century, to which a two-unit house was added in the 18th century. The main front of the 18th-century section is brick, showcasing a three-window range of 19th-century casements set under shallow brick arches. There is a 20th-century door to the far left, also under a similar arch. Brick stacks are located at both ends. Attached to the left is a single-storey stone range, probably from the 17th century, which has two windows with moulded stone surrounds. The rear elevation is similar to the front. The interior has not been inspected. A building of similar shape is depicted on the estate map from 1747.
