Description

The School House and attached Village Hall is a building that dates from the early to mid-19th century. It was originally designed as a school and schoolhouse, but it is now used as a house and Village Hall. The structure is made of squared coursed limestone and features roofs of Collyweston and Welsh slate. Originally, it likely consisted of a single unit with a rectangular plan, but it has since been reshaped into an irregular plan.

The building is single storey and has a range of four 19th-century windows, which are casements with moulded stone surrounds and hood moulds. There is a central gabled porch made of ashlar stone, which has arch-headed doorways. The main entrance features a 19th-century plank door. The roof is hipped and has lateral stone stacks.

To the right, there is a mid-19th-century extension that served as a schoolroom, which is oriented at right angles to the main building. This extension has a pair of large wooden cross windows in the gable end, adorned with diamond leaded panes and a hood mould above. A gabled porch projects to the left and contains a 19th-century door with strap hinges. Above the left-hand entrance, there are the Brudenell arms. At the rear, there is a mid-19th-century parallel range. The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value.
