Description

April Cottage is a house that likely dates from the early 18th century and was modified in the mid-19th century. It is built from coursed limestone rubble and features both thatch and concrete tile roofs. The house has a two-unit plan and is a single storey with an attic. The front has a two-window range of 20th-century casements set under wooden lintels. There are two eyebrow dormers with similar windows in the attic. The central entrance has a 20th-century door also under a wooden lintel, and there is evidence of blocked doors on either side of the entrance. A brick stack is located at one end of the building. To the left, there is a 19th-century outbuilding with a concrete tile roof that is now part of the house. Inside, the room to the left of the entrance features an open fireplace with a stop-chamfered bressumer, while the room to the right has a small internal leaded window. Some original roof structure remains, and the building was likely used as two dwellings with a central passageway. The cottage is included for its group value.
