Description

The Cottages is a house dating from the mid-to-late 18th century. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone and has a thatch and slate roof. Originally likely a three-unit building, it was later subdivided. The house is two storeys high with a five-window range at the first floor, featuring an iron casement window and a single horizontal iron sash window to the left. Other windows are 19th-century casements; those on the ground floor have glazing bars and are set under shallow brick arches. A 20th-century casement window replaces the original doorway, and a 20th-century door is located to the left of centre, also under a shallow brick arch. Brick stacks are situated at the ridge and end of the building. The rear elevation includes a 19th-century lean-to extension with a slate roof. Inside, there are remnants of late 18th-to-early 19th-century open fireplaces. The house was likely converted into three dwellings in the early 19th century.
