Description

Mill House is a house dating from the early 19th century, with a datestone indicating 1803. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a plain tile roof. The house has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys high, with a three-window front. The central entrance has a six-panel door with a rectangular fanlight, flanked by Tuscan columns and a segmental pediment. The ground floor has central and flanking tripartite sash windows, all with glazing bars and set under gauged stone heads. The windows are reduced in size on the second floor. Raised bands delineate the floors. The roof is hipped, with internal ashlar stacks. A datestone is also visible on the rear elevation, along with lean-to extensions. Inside, the entrance hall features a wide staircase with stick balusters. The house was likely built for the owner of Cotterstock Mill, probably James Rickett. A drawing of the house was made by George Clarke in 1847.
