Description

ASHTON ASHTON GREEN TL0588 18/7 Shepherdess Cottage and attached barn GV II

House and attached barn. C18 remodelled C19 and early C20. Squared coursed limestone with thatch roofs. House is a 2-window range of casements, with glazing bars, under artificial stone lintels. Central C20 door, under similar lintel, has lean-to thatch porch. Ashlar gable parapet to left and stone stack at end. Oval plaque in left gable. Rear is similar. Barn attached to right has central cart entrance, under wood lintel, with C20 plank doors. Small plank door, to rear, is flanked by casement windows. Interior of barn has 2 pairs of raised crucks, probably reset also altered. (RCHM: An Inventory of Architectural Monuments in North Northamptonshire: p18)
