Description

These stables, coach house, and outbuildings are likely from around 1740, with alterations in the mid-19th century. The structure is built of lias ashlar and regular coursed limestone, with slate and stone slate roofs. It comprises a range of three coach houses and two stables, with an attached outbuilding. The design is single-storey, with haylofts above.

On the left side of the building are three segmental-arch openings, each with a keyblock, and a lower arched entrance leading to hayloft stairs. A hayloft dormer is situated above. A central gable is present, along with two casements and a doorway to the left, all under stone lintels. The stables to the right have a similar central entrance and flanking casements. The building has ashlar gable parapets and kneelers, and features an armorial plaque in the gable.

The attached outbuilding has a stone slate roof and a plank door to the rear, under a wooden lintel. The interior of the outbuilding contains an open fireplace and was likely used as a bakehouse for the nearby Old Rectory. The group value of the outbuilding and its connection to the Old Rectory is important. A section of wall is attached to the main structure.
