Description
The Old Rectory is a rectory that has been converted into a house, dated 1703, although it may have earlier origins. It is constructed of regularly coursed limestone with a lias ashlar facade and has a slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan and is two storeys high with an attic.
On the garden front, there is a five-window range of sash windows featuring glazing bars and plain stone architraves. Additionally, there are two 2-light stone-mullion cellar windows. A string course runs between the floors, and there is a moulded stone cornice along the top. The roof features a pair of flat-topped dormers with leaded lights, along with ashlar gable parapets and kneelers. Brick and stone stacks are located at both ends of the building. To the right, there is a late 19th-century brick one-bay extension.
The left elevation of the garden front includes a six-panel door with panelled reveals, a reeded surround, and a fanlight with intersecting glazing bars. A semi-circular double flight of steps, adorned with an 18th-century iron balustrade, leads up to the door. The cast-iron rainwater head on the building is dated. The rear elevation is similar to the front, featuring leaded light casements in the basement and sash windows on the upper floors, with all windows under flat stone arches.
Inside, the entrance hall boasts an 18th-century staircase with two turned balusters per tread. The dining room, located at the rear of the entrance hall, is finished with 18th-century fielded panelling and a bolection moulded stone fireplace surround. The sitting room, immediately to the right of the entrance, features oak 17th-century panelling that has been reset from Pytchley Old Hall. The drawing room, situated to the right of the staircase, showcases early 19th-century style panelling and cornice.
