Description
Dairy Cottage is a house dating from the early to late 18th century. It is constructed from squared coursed and regular coursed ironstone, topped with an asbestos tile roof. The original layout was a two-unit plan. The building has two storeys and features a three-window range with 20th-century cross windows set in the original openings, all under wooden lintels. There is a blocked fire window on the far left. To the left of the centre, a six-panelled door with glazed top lights is topped by a moulded stone cornice with tile coping, supported by 20th-century wooden brackets. The gable ends have ashlar parapets and kneelers, with brick stacks at both ends. A late 18th-century extension is located at the rear, which includes 20th-century additions. Inside, the room to the left of the entrance has an open fireplace with a bressumer and a stop-chamfered spine beam, while the room to the right features a moulded spine beam. This building was formerly a dairy farm associated with Orlingbury Hall.
