Description
10 The Green is a mid-19th century building that originally served as both a school and a house, now functioning as a single dwelling. It is likely designed by R.C. Hussey and features squared coursed lias with ashlar dressings and a slate roof, presenting an L-shaped plan in the Tudor style. The house section is a single storey with an attic, characterized by an entrance front that has a two-window range to the right of the dormers, which includes 2-light stone-mullioned windows. The ground floor features 3-light stone-mullioned windows with arched head lights. To the right, there is a one-window range that was formerly the school, also with similar 2-light windows. The central 19th-century plank door is framed by a moulded stone surround with a four-centred head. The building has ashlar gable parapets, kneelers, and stone stacks at both ends. The left elevation of the entrance front was originally the school, featuring a gabled porch to the left and a projecting gable to the right, which includes 9-light stone-mullioned and transomed windows with arched and stepped head lights. Similar windows are found in the rear gable, and all windows are fitted with leaded lights. The building is included for its group value.
