Description

Biggin Hall stables, dating from the early to mid 19th century, are constructed from squared coursed limestone with ashlar dressings and feature a slate roof. The building has an L-shaped plan and is partly two storeys high. The courtyard elevation of the right wing has a central gable with a blind, four-centred arch-head recess. To the right, there are six coach house doors with four-centred arch heads, and to the left, there is a door with a similar head and flanking windows. The gable features an ashlar parapet and kneelers. The rear of this wing, which faces the gardens, is plain but includes a similar central gable detail. The elevation of the wing attached at right angles to the left is also two storeys and consists of four bays. It has two two-light stone mullion windows with four-centred arch heads in the centre and to the right, and two 19th-century plank doors with similar heads located between the windows. The first floor has irregularly placed 19th-century casements under stone lintels with keyblocks. A brick stack is positioned at the ridge, with a hipped roof to the right and an ashlar gable parapet to the left. The rear elevation connects to Biggin Hall through a small archway. The interior has not been inspected. The stables are included for their group value with Biggin Hall.
