Description
Melton Cottage and Rosebank Cottage are two dwellings that were likely built in the late 17th century and mid 18th century. The buildings are constructed from squared coursed and regular coursed limestone and feature a thatched roof. Originally, they probably had a two-unit lobby entry plan, which was later expanded to four units. The cottages are single storey with an attic and have a five-window range of 19th century style casements set under wooden lintels. There are two similar casements in the attic, one located under eyebrow dormers, and a 20th century casement under the eaves to the left. A 20th century door, complete with a lean-to hood, is positioned to the left of centre. The two bays to the left, which now form Rosebank Cottage, project forward and are likely of a later construction. There are brick and stone stacks at the ridge. The entrance to Rosebank Cottage is located in a 20th century extension at the rear. Although the interiors were not inspected, they are noted to include open fireplaces with bressumers and ceiling beams.
