Description

Manor Farmhouse is a former manor house that has been converted into a farmhouse. It dates from the early and late 16th century, with additional work from the 18th and 19th centuries. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone and features a stone slate roof. Originally designed as a hall plan, it has been modified to a double-depth layout.

The farmhouse is two storeys high with an attic. The main front has a three-window arrangement of 19th-century sash windows on the first floor, all set beneath wooden lintels. At ground level, there are flanking canted wooden bay windows with French doors. The central entrance features a six-panel part-glazed door, which is topped by a 19th-century flat-roofed ashlar porch. Above, there are three hipped roof dormers with casement windows. The gable ends have ashlar parapets, and there is an ashlar stack at one end.

To the right of the main front, there is a two-window range that includes a two-light stone mullion window on the right and casement windows with glazing bars on the left. A large lateral ashlar stack is located at the rear of the front range, likely incorporating 16th-century work. The left elevation of the main front features a 19th-century two-window range of casement windows.

Although the interior was not inspected, it is noted that the central passage contains a 16th-century doorway with chamfered jambs, along with two other 16th-century doorways that have triangular heads. The manor was acquired by Thomas Lord Cromwell in 1538 and later passed to the Brudenells of Deene, who almost entirely rebuilt the house in 1599. The main front was added in the 18th century, and the rear range underwent alterations in the 19th century.
