Description

The Bakery, The Farmhouse, and The Granary at Lower Farm are three dwellings that originated in the 17th century, with modifications in the mid-18th century and 19th century. The buildings are constructed from regularly coursed and squared limestone, topped with Collyweston and Welsh slate roofs. Originally, the structure likely had a three-unit plan oriented at right angles to the road, but it now features an irregular S-shape.

The main facade is two stories with an attic and includes a three-window arrangement of sash windows, with the outer windows being tripartite. The first-floor windows are set beneath wooden lintels, while those on the ground floor are under shallow stone arches. A central 20th-century six-panel door is positioned under a similar arch. The facade is adorned with a pair of gabled roof dormers, ashlar gable parapets, and ashlar stacks at both ends.

To the right, there is a central gabled projection from the 17th-century range. The left elevation features a two-window range of 20th-century casements within the original openings. The ground floor left window is under a shallow stone arch, while the right window is under a wooden lintel. A central 20th-century door is also located under a wooden lintel. The two bays on the right were likely raised in the 18th century and have an ashlar gable parapet.

The former granary is attached at right angles to the rear and consists of a three-window range of 20th-century casements under renewed wooden lintels, with a central 20th-century door also under a wooden lintel. There is a 20th-century door to the first floor on the far right, which is accessed via a flight of external stone steps. The granary features ashlar gable parapets and a 20th-century stone stack at the end. Although the interiors have not been inspected, they are noted to contain remnants of an open fireplace and a staircase with turned balusters.
