Description
Churchfield Farmhouse is a farmhouse with origins dating back to the mid 17th century, with significant alterations mainly occurring in the mid 18th century and 19th century. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone and features a Collyweston slate roof. The building has an irregular T-shape plan and stands two storeys tall. The main front consists of a three-window range, with a gabled cross wing that projects forward to the left. The windows are primarily 19th and 20th century casements set under wooden lintels. To the right on the ground floor, there are two openings that feature 20th century French doors. A lean-to porch with a 20th century door is located to the left, and a 20th century conservatory is situated to the right. The farmhouse has ashlar gable parapets and kneelers, along with ashlar stacks at the ridge and ends. The left elevation displays a central gable end of the main range, flanked by one-window ranges of casements with glazing bars. The rear wing includes a 20th century extension. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is noted to have remnants of an open fireplace. Additionally, a fragment of a medieval window head located to the left of the main front is believed to have originated from the now-demolished Churchfield Church, which once stood to the east of the farmhouse. Churchfield Farmhouse is recognized as the only surviving house from the village of Churchfield.
