Description

The war memorial, located on Broad Green facing a main road out of central Wellingborough, is a striking monument constructed with Derbyshire gritstone for the foundations, Corshill stone for the main body, and Weldon stone for the name panels. The central feature is a pillar approximately 8 meters tall, adorned with flat, fluted pilasters at the corners topped with Corinthian capitals. The front of the pillar includes a recessed panel with a moulded stone wreath and ribbons. At the top, there is an elaborate segmental pediment featuring a cartouche with the initial "W" for Wellingborough, set on a poppy head.

Behind the pillar is a curved stone wall with piers at each end, each topped with heavy ball finials. The wall is inscribed with "1914 REMEMBRANCE 1918/ (names)/ 1939 - 1945/ (names)/ IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR/ LIVES IN SUBSEQUENT CONFLICTS/ KOREAN WAR 1950 - 1955/ (names)/ NORTHERN IRELAND/ (name)." The wall contains 13 plaques listing the names of those who fell in the First World War, along with three plaques for the Second World War, and additional names commemorating later conflicts.

A tall yew hedge stands behind the monument, and the memorial is enclosed by spiked railings, which are included in the listing. In front of the memorial are two independently-listed lamp standards.
