Description

East Bridgford War Memorial is situated in the eastern corner of the churchyard, near the Grade I-listed Church of St Peter and a collection of Grade II-listed headstones.

The memorial is made of Derby gritstone and features a pointed Latin cross with cusped projections at the angles between the cross-arms. This cross is set atop an octagonal shaft that has a decorative moulded collar and a square base with inverted chamfer stops. The shaft rises from a square plinth with an octagonal cap and curved moulded shoulders, which sits on a three-stepped base that is square in shape.

On the east face of the plinth, there is a cross patée symbol carved in relief above an inset bronze plaque that lists the names of 22 servicemen who died in the First World War. The names are presented in raised lettering and organized by the year of death. Below this, on the east face of the base, is the main inscription in incised lettering: "TO THE MEMORY OF THE FALLEN IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914-1918." The step below features the incised words, "THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE."

On the west face of the plinth, there is an additional bronze plaque that commemorates the Second World War, which reads: "THIS TABLET WAS ADDED TO THE/ MEMORY OF THE FALLEN IN THE/ SECOND GREAT WAR 1939-45" followed by five names listed by the year of death.
