Description

Two houses, numbers 29 and 31, were built in the early 19th century and have undergone alterations in the 20th century. They are constructed of squared coursed limestone with a thatched roof. Originally, each house was planned with two units. The architectural style is a simple cottage orné. The buildings are single-storey and form a four-window range of casement windows, with two of these windows being replacements from the 20th century, all with wooden lintels. The central two bays are set back under an open-gabled porch supported by two square wooden posts. Doors are located in the return walls; number 29 has a plank door and number 31 has a 20th-century replacement, both with wooden lintels. The roof is hipped with bargeboards to the central gable. Rebuilt lateral brick stacks are located at each end of the building. A 20th-century garage is attached to the right side. A two-stage buttress is present on the left side. The interiors have not been inspected. The buildings are included on the list for their group value, as they were originally estate houses associated with Fermyn Woods Hall.
