Description

Two houses, located on the south side of Witney Road. The houses date to the mid-17th century, with an additional cottage (number 31) added to the left in the later 17th century, and later 20th-century alterations.

Number 29 is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a gabled thatched roof and stone end stacks. It has a single-unit plan and one and a half storeys, with a two-window range. It has a 20th-century timber lintel over a 20th-century window and a 20th-century porch to the left; and 20th-century half-dormer casements. A leaded-light window with diamond panes is present at the rear. The interior features a chamfered beam with a rolled stop, an open fireplace with a similar bressumer, and adjoining winder stairs.

Number 31, to the left, is built of similar materials with a stone end stack. It has a two-unit plan and one and a half storeys, with a two-window range. It has a 20th-century door and porch, and timber lintels over 20th-century casements. A bay to the left dates to the 18th century, with a 20th-century entry, and was rebuilt in the 20th century. The interior includes chamfered beams and part of a butt-purlin roof. The properties are included on the list for their group value.
