Description
A house, now two dwellings, dated 1661, with alterations in the 20th century. The house is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, with a gabled concrete tile roof and a stone stack at the right end. It follows a 2-unit plan with a cross-passage and extends over two storeys and an attic, with a 3-window front. A timber lintel sits above a 20th-century window within a gabled central stair turret. Early 19th-century three-light casement windows are present to the right, with a late 19th-century three-light casement above a concrete lintel over a 20th-century window; a 20th-century gabled roof dormer is also visible. A 20th-century entrance is set into the left-side wall. At the rear, the original front has a 20th-century kitchen extension on the ground floor. A former service range, built of matching materials with a stone ridge stack, adjoins the right side; it has a timber lintel over a 20th-century door leading to No.9 on the left, and 20th-century doors and windows for No.11 on the right. Inside No.9, ground-floor beams are mutilated, and an early 19th-century dog-leg staircase is located within the stair turret. The first floor retains chamfered beams, as well as two sets of principal rafters, one with butt purlins, which are remnants of the original collar-truss roof. The building is included on the list for its group value.
