Description

Cromwell House, now used as a house and surgery, dates from the late 17th century. It is built of squared coursed limestone and features a slate and original plain-tile roof. The building has a U-shape plan and consists of two storeys with an attic. The entrance front has flanking cross wings that project forward, with a central two-window range that includes one leaded casement window at the first floor, set under a wood lintel. The return wall of the right cross wing features one leaded casement, one sash window, and a four-panel door to the left, all under wood lintels. There are blocked windows to the right. The right gable has a 19th-century canted wood bay window with a partially legible datestone in the gable. The gable parapets and kneelers are made of ashlar, and there are brick and ashlar stacks at the ridge and ends. The elevation facing the road mirrors the two-window range with a cross wing to the left, which is now partially rendered. The garden front at the rear is rendered and includes some 19th-century sash windows. Attached to the rear are stables with a thatched roof, featuring two entrances with plank and stable doors under wood lintels, and a gable parapet at the far right. The interior has not been inspected.
