Description

The Gables is a house, dated 1678 as indicated by a datestone, situated on the north side of London Road, Wollaston. The construction utilizes squared coursed limestone with a corrugated asbestos roof. The building follows an L-shaped plan and stands two storeys high with an attic. The principal front features a three-window arrangement of leaded casement windows at the first floor, each with a wooden lintel; two windows on the left have been replaced. A ground-floor window on the left is distinguished by a moulded stone surround. A central, 20th-century door lies to the right of centre, also beneath a wooden lintel. There is evidence of a former central carriage arch. The house has ashlar gable parapets with kneelers and brick and stone stacks at the ridge and end. The right gable bears a datestone. The interior has not been inspected, but may contain remains of open fireplaces.
