Description

The Woodford War Memorial is located on the large Green at the center of the village. It features a sandstone obelisk approximately 5 meters tall, with a reversed sword carved in relief on its front face. Below this, the word "HONOUR" is also carved in relief. The obelisk is set on a square, splayed plinth, which is raised on a four-stepped octagonal base, making the overall height of the memorial about 7.5 meters.

The front face of the plinth is inscribed with the words: "TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF/ THE MEN FROM THIS PARISH/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE/ GREAT WAR./ 1914 – 1919." The names of those who fell in the Great War are inscribed on the other three sides. Additionally, a stone set into the front face of the second step bears an inscription for the Second World War: "TO THE MEMORY OF THESE MEN, WHO GAVE THEIR/ LIVES IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR 1939 – 1945," which includes 8 names.
