Description

Manor House Farmhouse is a former manor house dating from the early 17th century, now functioning as a farmhouse. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone and features roofs made of Collyweston slate and pantiles. Originally designed in a hall plan, it has been altered to a U-shape. The building stands two storeys tall and has a main front with a four-window range, where the end bays project forward as gabled wings. The central two-window range includes two-light stone mullion windows with ovolo mouldings on the ground floor and similar three-light windows on the first floor, each topped with gablets. The gable ends of the wings also feature three-light stone mullion windows with transoms. The central door is framed by a moulded wood surround, and the gable parapets and finials are made of ashlar, as are the stacks with moulded cornices at the ridge.

On the rear elevation, there is a central plank door along with stone mullion windows on the ground floor and casement windows with glazing bars under wood lintels on the first floor. Inside, the entrance hall showcases an 18th-century style staircase with turned balusters. The room to the right of the entrance contains a 17th-century fireplace with a four-centred head set in a large open fireplace with a bressumer, along with fragments of 17th-century panelling. The rooms in the wings feature moulded spine beams. The central range likely served as an open hall and retains the bases of arched-brace trusses in the first-floor rooms. The ground floor rooms in the centre have chamfered beams, which were probably added when the hall was subdivided.
