Description

Titchmarsh Mill, now the clubhouse for the Middle Nene Cruising Club, is a watermill and attached house dating from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone and brick, topped with yellow and red pantile roofs, and has a rectangular plan. The building stands two storeys high with an attic and features a three-window range of 19th and 20th century casements beneath wooden lintels, all with ashlar surrounds. To the left, there is a plank door, also under a wooden lintel, with a similar door above on the first floor, accessed by a 20th century external iron staircase. The ground floor wall projects forward and has a chamfered plinth between the floors. There are two gabled roof dormers and a brick stack at one end. Attached to the left is a one-unit, two-storey structure that was originally the mill house, which has a sash window and a brick stack at the end. A large cast-iron drive wheel is located on the right side of the first floor, and a hill race runs beneath the center of the building. The right gable has been partially rebuilt in brick. The rear elevation features a four-window range of 20th century casements under renewed wooden lintels and three gabled roof dormers. The interior has not been inspected.
