Description
No. 40 on Main Street is a public house that has been converted into a house, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone and features a thatched roof. Originally designed with a three-unit plan, the building is a single storey with an attic. The front has a three-window range of 19th-century style casements set under wood lintels, and there are four casements under eyebrow dormers in the attic. Two 20th-century plank doors, also under wood lintels, are located between the windows. The gable parapets are made of ashlar, and there are brick stacks at the ridge and end, with the central stack having an ashlar plinth. The interior has not been inspected but likely retains remnants of an open fireplace. This building was formerly known as the Rose and Crown public house.
