Description

The Manor House is a house built in 1881 by R.W. Collier, with an extension added around 1900. It is constructed from coursed limestone with freestone dressings and features a gabled limestone slate roof adorned with small stone finials and lead-clad stone coping at the gables. The house has ashlar stacks with multiple shafts and moulded caps. The layout is L-shaped, with the main front range containing the principal rooms and stair hall, while a small service yard at the rear has since been filled in.

The exterior is two storeys high and presents an asymmetrical three-bay south front. On the left, there are two gables featuring small diamond panels, with four-light stone mullion windows on the first floor set between flush stone bands. The ground floor includes two canted stone mullion bay windows. A similar bay window on the right rises to a smaller projecting gable. The east side shows the gable end of the front range on the left, which has a projecting stack and integral flanking windows. The right wing features a variety of stone mullion windows, including one with one, two, three, and four lights, along with corbelled ashlar stacks that have set-offs and small Tudor arches between the corbels. At the rear of the main front range, there is a Tudor arch doorway on the right leading to the covered-over small service yard. The north side has the circa 1900 single-storey extension.

Inside, the dining room has a fireplace with a Tudor arch, a wooden chimneypiece with a deep mantel-shelf, and an open arcaded inglenook. The staircase features stick balusters and acorn finials on square newels, while the chambers contain small chimneypieces with Delft tile surrounds.
